This floating eco-hotel concept in Qatar generates its own electricity
Now a day’s hospitality groups are ramping up efforts to be environmentally friendly, a floating eco-hotel concept in Qatar has taken this challenge one step further by generating its own electricity.
At first glance, the property looks like a villain’s hideout from the world of James Bond. It has a very cool design and it floats out at sea. It also spins which allows it to generate its own electricity. You could say the property is both a luxury abode and a hydro generator. Although that sounds mind-boggling, if realized, it would single-handedly charge up sustainability efforts in the hospitality industry.
Merging luxury with sustainability
it is designed by Turkish design firm Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS), this Floating Eco-Hotel in Qatar adopts the principle of “minimum energy loss and zero waste.” According to details shared by HAADS, the floating structure generates electrical energy by rotating in its position according to the water flow.
In essence, it is based on the concept of a dynamo. It spins the structure using a network of thrusters and propellers controlled by a Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, converting energy into power.
Despite the fact that it spins, it will not give guests any discomfort. It takes about 24 hours for the property to complete a full circuit.
Solar panels and wind turbines will also be used to provide energy for the Floating Eco-Hotel. The hotel also has a glass vortex-shaped roof that collects rainwater, which contributes to the property's sustainability objective. The gathered water will be used to water the hotel's plants and for irrigation.
5-Star comforts
Despite its environmental credentials, the Floating Eco-Hotel will offer a wide range of premium amenities and services. It will have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, and a gym since it is designed as a five-star hotel. A rooftop bar, beach club, and mini-golf course are among the other recreational options.

The property will cover 35,000 square meters and feature 152 suites with their own balconies and different views. The hotel's heart is dominated by a massive glass atrium. At any time of day, three entrance points provide access to the site. Guests can arrive by boat or helicopter, or use the 140-degree floating dock that connects to the mainland.
Despite the fact that the property is still in the design phase, HAADS is optimistic that it will be completed by 2025. The Floating Eco-Hotel will be based in Qatar, but its architecture allows it to be moved.
According to reports, the resort is one of many high-end floating hotels planned for the emirate. 16 similar getaways will be constructed specifically for the 2022 World Cup, which it will host.
